Chinese medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system of healing that originated in China and includes various methods aimed at maintaining and restoring health, based on a holistic approach to the body. It views the human being as a single system in which everything is interconnected, and disease is considered to be the result of an imbalance of vital energy.
Basic principles and methods of traditional Chinese medicine:
Yin and Yang Theory:
Assumes the existence of two opposite but complementary forces that form all things, including the human body. Disease occurs when the balance of these energies is disturbed.
The Five Element Theory (Wu-Xing):
Reflects the relationship between the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) and a person’s organs and emotions. A disturbance in one element can affect the others.
Energy meridians:
TCM believes that there is energy “qi” circulating through the body, which flows through specific channels called meridians. Blocking or disrupting the circulation of energy can lead to disease.
Treatment methods:
Acupuncture (acupuncture): Treating specific points on the body with fine needles to restore energy balance.
Point massage (acupressure): Influencing acupuncture points with your fingers.
Phytotherapy: The use of herbs and natural substances for treatment.
Tuina Massage: A Chinese massage aimed at relieving tension and improving energy circulation.
Qigong and Tai-Chi: Movements and breathing exercises to harmonize energy.
Nutritional therapy: Nutritional correction in accordance with TCM principles.
Jar Massage: The use of glass or plastic jars to create a vacuum on the skin, improving blood circulation.
In general, TCM seeks to restore harmony and balance in the body, to eliminate the root causes of disease, not just to manage symptoms. It views the human being as a whole, including his or her physical and mental state.
