In the world of Avatar. Journey to the most cosmic park on our planet.
An incredible adventure awaits us in the Wulingyuan Mountains – these are the same mountains that inspired the creators of the movie Avatar with their fantastic landscapes! We will spend 5 unforgettable days in the Avatar Mountains!
Here the understanding of time and space is lost. The landscapes of these mountains have been portrayed by many artists from the Celestial Empire, followed by world-renowned painters. Tourists who have been here say that a walk through Zhangjiajie Park is comparable to visiting an art gallery of traditional Chinese paintings, the only difference being that all the beauties can be seen in person.
The sight here is fantastic, it transforms every time the weather and wind direction changes. It all depends on how high you are, how bright the sun shines, how the clouds lie.
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park of southeast China is a fantastic place – a natural zoo, botanical and geological reserve. It is famous for its quartzite cliffs, up to 800 meters high.
Wulingyuan is the same mountains that inspired the creators of the movie Avatar for their fantastic landscapes. James Cameron didn’t shoot a single scene of his movie there, but he did go there with his crew and they were inspired by the beautiful views. And then it was all competently drawn and shown in a movie. The Chinese used it and began to call the mountains “Avatar”. Accordingly, many fans who watched the movie choose this route, but it is also interesting for people who just want to see beautiful, unusual places created by nature, not by man.
The Wulingyuan Mountains, now called Avatar, were famous before James Cameron saw them. They have always been a popular destination for the Chinese, and in 1992 they were added to UNESCO’s list of World Natural Heritage Sites as a national park, attracting even more tourists. The mountains are located near the city of Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province.

About the peculiarities of the route and organization
You are taken up to one of the most popular peaks by the Bailun elevator or the Hundred Dragons Elevator. It has a capacity of about 50 people. They are large cabins with transparent glass. With incredible speed, they rush upwards to the height of the peak – about 400-t meters. It’s the same view that inspired Cameron, and he captured it in his movie. And you and I are going to take a ride on such an elevator!
The most popular places in this park can be reached on foot, overcoming several thousand steps, or you can use the services of the cable car – the longest in the world, its length is 7.5 kilometers. Travel time is 28 minutes, the height is 1279 meters. “Ropeway” carries us from one peak to another. The cabin disappears somewhere in the fog, and appears somewhere in another part of the park – a very unusual, interesting sight.
We will visit a national village. This is where the original inhabitants of the area, the Tujia, Miao and Bo, live. They speak their own languages and preserve their traditions.
We will admire huge stalactite caves, high waterfalls, a beautiful lake, and visit a monkey nursery.
Once upon a time, this national park was a splashing sea with very rich flora and fauna at the bottom. But due to changes in the tectonic plates, the earth’s crust began to move, and these natural rocks were formed, which are probably not found in any other part of the world except Asia.
The park has a famous glass bridge that goes around one of the ridges and you can walk across it. It is an incredible adventure!
On the last day, those interested can go to the national show, which takes place there right in the open air. A theatrical performance unfolds at the foot of the mountains. A simple story about love and life in the kingdom of humans and life in the kingdom of foxes. More than 500 actors are involved in the production. The scenery is a natural forest. There is a huge lighting system built into the rocks. The spectacle is incredible and is considered to be the largest such show in Asia.
In addition to the Avatar Nature Reserve, where we will admire mountains, caves, canyons, we will visit tea plantations and get acquainted with the capital of China , Beijing. At the end of the trip we will visit quiet traditional Chinese towns where the atmosphere of China of the past centuries has been preserved – in Fujun and Fenghuang.
