The temple hosts daily pujas (worship rituals) as well as special ceremonies during festivals.

It is considered as one of the most important and ancient Shiva temples in Coimbatore district. It has a rich history and architectural significance.

The history of the Perur Pateeshwarar temple is shrouded in legends and myths going back centuries. It is believed that the temple has been in existence for over 1500 years, and some sources claim that its roots may go back even further, to the Sangam era (roughly from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD).

According to one legend, Shiva performed his cosmic dance (Nataraja) in the Kanka Sabha (Golden Hall) of the temple. This makes the temple one of the most sacred places for Shiva devotees.

The name “Perur” is associated with a cow named Patti. Legend has it that the cow Patti used to spill her milk daily on the murti (image) of Shiva hidden underground. When the place was discovered, a temple was built.

The temple is famous for its magnificent Dravidian architecture, with tall gopurams, intricate carvings and beautiful columns. The temple has many elaborate sculptures of gods and goddesses, mythical creatures and scenes from Hindu mythology.
