Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that traveling to Tibet is a big decision, and you probably have questions. We have collected here the answers to the most common ones to make it easier for you to prepare for the main adventure.
1. How good does my physical condition have to be? Do I need special training?
Imagine being able to walk in a fast pace for hours on end in a park or forest without any problems. If this is about you, you are ready! No special mountaineering training is required. Our route is built so that your body gets used to the altitude gradually. The most difficult part is the pass during Kora, but we walk at a very relaxed pace, make stops, and our experienced guides are always there to support you.
2. What about mountain sickness? Isn’t that dangerous?
This is perhaps the most important issue, and we have given it our utmost attention. Your safety is our top priority. The program is specially designed for a smooth and gentle acclimatization: we spend the first days in Lhasa at an altitude of 3650 m so that your body gets used to it. We have oxygen tanks with us on the whole route, and our guides are real professionals who know all the subtleties of staying at altitude and closely monitor the condition of each participant. You are in good hands.
3- What exactly does “VIP comfort” mean in a Tibetan setting? Are these really 5 star hotels?
Let’s be honest: Tibet is not Dubai. But we guarantee you the highest level of comfort possible in this region. In Lhasa, you will stay in a real 5-star hotel of international standard. In more remote places, such as Dharchhen and Manasarovar, we book the best 4* hotels available. And only 2 nights during the trek near Kailas you will sleep in gesthouses where everything is very modest.
4. Will I have to carry a heavy backpack during the three-day Kora around Kailas?
No, and that’s one of the key benefits of our tour. Your job is to enjoy the incredible views and inner sensations, not to carry heavy loads. All your essentials (sleeping bag, change of clothes) will be carried by porters. You will only need to carry a small light backpack with the day’s essentials: water, camera, windbreaker and snacks. You are going light.
5. Why is the tour so short, only 10 days? Won’t I miss anything important?
We value your time. This itinerary is the result of years of experience, created especially for those who can’t afford a three-week expedition. We’ve removed all the tedium – long and exhausting land transfers – and replaced them with two quick domestic flights. This saves you 4-5 days of travel time, yet you see absolutely everything iconic, from Lhasa to Kailas. This is the most concentrated and time-efficient itinerary available.
6. What is “Kora”? And why does everyone say it’s such a powerful experience?
Think of it as a big moving meditation around the most powerful “place of power” on Earth. Kora is a sacred circumambulation around Mount Kailas. For believers, it’s a way to cleanse themselves of sins, but even for people far removed from religion, it’s an incredibly powerful experience. Three days of trekking surrounded by cosmic landscapes, away from civilization and bustle, helps to “reset” the mind, let go of all unnecessary things and gain amazing clarity of mind. Many people say that after Kora they come back completely different people.
7. I am not a Buddhist and do not consider myself a religious person. Would I be interested?
Absolutely! It’s a journey much broader than religion. It is first and foremost a journey to yourself. You will touch ancient culture, see nature of incredible, pristine beauty and test your strength. It is an opportunity to be in silence, to hear yourself and get a powerful energy boost for new accomplishments in business and in life. It is an experience for the soul, mind and body, regardless of your beliefs.
8. What is included in the price? Will I have to pay extra for anything on the spot?
We built the tour according to the principle of “everything is thought out for you”. The price already includes almost everything: accommodation in the best hotels, all transfers, accompaniment of two guides, all permits and tickets to monasteries, services of porters at Kora, oxygen, trekking poles and even welcome and farewell dinners. Not included are 2 domestic flights and an international flight to Lhasa, lunches and dinners (other than those included), personal expenses and souvenirs.
