Nepal. Trekking to Everest Base Camp

Nepal is known throughout the world as the birthplace of the Buddha and as a mountaineering Mecca, which is fully or partially located 8 of the 14 highest peaks in the world (“the eight thousandth peak”).

Here is the highest mountain on the planet Everest (8848 m). The Tibetans call this peak Jomolungma, which means “Divine Mother of the Universe. The name of Mount Jomolungma was given in honor of the goddess Miyo Langsangma, who resides on its summit and slopes. The second, English name “Everest” was given to the mountain in 1856 in honor of Sir George Everest, chairman of the Surveying Committee of India.

Trekking to Everest base camp gives you the opportunity to enjoy the views of the world’s highest peak and the snow-capped giants surrounding it in Sagarmatha National Park for many days.

Together with the mountain air you will absorb the images of the majestic Himalayas and be filled with the bubbling energy of nature – something that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Travel program

Day 1. Kathmandu. Boudhanath Stupa. Airport pickup. Transfer and rest.

Welcome to Kathmandu, located at an altitude of 1300 meters. From the first steps after stepping off the plane, even at the airport, you realize that you have entered a completely different world. A world that is strikingly different from anything familiar and Western. Transfer to the hotel near the ancient and the world’s largest Buddhist stupa Boudhanath (object of spiritual, cultural importance, UNESCO heritage). Rest and free time near the Stupa.
Boudhanath Stupa – a place with amazing energy. It is the oldest and largest stupa. Buddhists from all over the world come here to visit, including the most famous, movie actor Richard Gere. Here from early morning till late evening people walk around the Stupa – this ritual of going around the holy place is called kora. While circumambulating the Stupa, believers recite mantras and make prostrations. It purifies karma and also our heart and mind.
Once at the Stupa, everyone, regardless of their faith, feels a sense of belonging to the flow of Love and Power that has been going on here for centuries.

Day 2. We’re flying to Lukla. The village of Monjo.

After breakfast we drive to the airport and fly over the mountains to Lukla. Lukla is the heavenly gateway to Sagarmatha Park. We fly into a small and one of the most interesting airports in the world, Tenzinga-Hillary. This is the airport of the first mountaineers who climbed to the summit of Mount Everest back in 1953. Here we start our journey to the village of Monjo, the gateway to the nation. Sagarmatha Park. We walk upstream on the milky Dudh Kosi River, constantly crossing from bank to bank on the famous suspension bridges. We will see small Nepali villages and a beautiful waterfall. The track is immersed in dense groves of magnolias and rhododendrons. And also in these parts there is a rare valuable species – musk deer.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 3 – 4. Namche Bazar. 3446 м. Trek 3-4 hours. Acclimatization.

Today is a short day, but the journey is challenging because we are climbing a long distance uphill. Namche Bazar is a centuries-old trading center between Tibet and Nepal. This is the last town on the trek before base camp. Life here is interesting, with yaks roaming the street and the magical sounds of their bells filling the air. We spend two nights here to acclimatize. Views of Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Lhotse are spectacular from the top of the hillside town.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 5. Tengboche.
3868 м. Trek 5-6 hours.

After a good breakfast we head out on the route. We admire the scenery and majestic powerful rocks, breathing in the clean mountain air. We walk along the deep Dudh Kosi gorge, with snowy peaks towering over it. On the ascent we will see the Sherpa shrines – Ten Mount Khumbila and Tengboche Monastery. Admire the gorgeous monastery gates with dragons against the backdrop of Ama Dablam.

Tengboche Monastery is located on a hill at the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and Imja Khola rivers, offering a beautiful view of Mount Everest. It’s a tough climb, but it’s worth it because Tengboche is the most important spiritual center for Buddhists. Let’s go inside and see the unusual puja service. Arati puja in Hinduism and Buddhism symbolizes the worship of a deity and is accompanied by offering him fruits, petals, fire. We will witness the lamas (high priests) performing their prayers and chants with their pure hypnotic song.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 6-7. Dingboche.
4400 м. Trek 5-6 hours

Still admiring the rhododendron thickets, we continue our trekking to Everest base camp. Remember better the greenery of the trees, because today, after the village of Pangboche, we will leave the forest area. The landscapes will be increasingly ascetic, the vegetation lower and lower, and the mountains higher and closer. It will take us about 6 hours to trek to the fairly large village of Dingboche (4360m) where we will stop. We have climbed to a high altitude, so we will spend two nights here to acclimatize. On a day off we can trek the Nagarjunga (4500m).

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 8. Lobuche. 4960м.

After a good rest and breakfast we head up the wide valley from Dingboche. Trekking to Everest base camp passes through Phalung Karpo valley at an altitude of 4340 meters. Dugla is home to several seasonal huts, the beautiful mountain lake Cholatze, nestled amongst rugged and majestic cliffs, and breathtaking panoramas of the Tawagi, Ama Dablam mountains all around. The beauty of these places literally takes your breath away. The grand spectacle will culminate in the Khumbu Glacier, which has been hanging off Jomolungma for millions of years.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 9. Everest Base Camp, Gorak Shep. 5360 м.

On this exciting day, as we ascend to Everest base camp, we will stop at Gorak Shep for refreshment and lunch. We trek across the Khumbu Glacier to our goal at the foot of Everest. It is a sacred place for all who love the mountains. We celebrate, marvel at the grandeur and return to Gorak Shep for the night.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 10. Kala Patar – Ferice.

Cala Patar 5560 m. Ferice 4350 m

Early in the morning we will make a four-hour climb to Kala Patar at an altitude of 5,560 meters. The summit is the highest point we will reach on the trek and offers extraordinary views of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. A moment of majesty, of victory, of harmony… Back in Gorak Shep, we will start our descent through the Khumbu Valley. Goals achieved, but route not yet traveled – time to descend :). We’re staying in Ferich. This place is memorable for the incredible number of yaks – the local bulls. It’s also a great view of Mt. Ama Dablam.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 11. Ferice – Namche

We leisurely descend lower and lower into a realm of green rhododendrons, past the familiar Tiangboche Monastery. When you walk down, the views of the mountains are perceived in a completely different way))). Enjoying the pictures and feeling great – mountain sickness doesn’t bother us anymore. Overnight in Namche. It’s a real culinary paradise here and a nice hot shower! We relax, eat cheesecake and sip on real coffee. We can afford to relax a little, because the main goals of trekking to Everest base camp have been achieved.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 12. Namche to Lukla. 2650 м

A familiar path winding along the banks of the river amidst pine forests, we descend to Lukla. We spend our penultimate night in the Khumbu Valley at Phakding village.
